KIA Motors Frankfurt - Germany
Champions Trophy 2006
Frankfurt KIA 2006
The Champions Tour is now a guest at the Ballsporthalle for the fifth time and is being held in Germany for the eighth time since 1997. Thus, a long tennis tradition continues in Frankfurt, a city that has often been the perfect host for major tournaments, be it on the ATP Tour or in the Davis Cup.
The field of participants is the most ordered ever, as this tournament is the last chance for players to qualify for the Masters in London's Royal Albert Hall.
First of all the defending champion of the tournaments in Frankfurt and New York, John McEnroe.
He is the great legend of the white sport and has said in the media what everyone expects of him anyway: Hi this is John McEnroe - I am not coming to loose! However, this is made more difficult for him than ever before.
Marcelo Rios, former world No. 1 and 31 years young, has an unbelievable series on the Champions Tour - he is undefeated so far and wants to stay that way in Frankfurt, French Open winner Thomas Muster, Paul Haarhuis, the reigning Masters winner on the tour, Goran Ivanisevic, Wimbledon champion in 2001, the master of aces, who still has one of the hardest serves in the world.
Wimbledon and Davis Cup winner Pat Cash, doubles specialist, Anders Jarryd, who is playing better than ever, and German Davis Cup winner, Carl Uwe Steeb, will be looking to fend off the Mac Attack and take home the KIA Champions Trophy title themselves.
Walter Wiesmüller- The Legend of the Trophymakers.
We are proud that Walter Wiesmüller has been the official trophy maker of our tournaments, the klarmobil.de Champions Trophy Frankfurt, the New York Champions Trophy and the Abu Dhabi Champions Trophy for many years.
The mouth-blown glass trophies, interspersed with silver and gold stripes, are yet another proof of Walter Wiesmüller's creativity.
But also your muscles will be strained, more precisely the laughing muscles, because for more than twelve years our friend Mansour Bahrami has been thrilling visitors to our tournaments and tennis fans all over the world. He will be joined by one of the best doubles players of all time, multiple Wimbledon and Australia Open winner Peter McNamara. Together with two of the legends, you will celebrate the art of tennis in doubles matches.
Tournaments like this would be impossible without the extensive support of our sponsors, whose commitment lays the foundation for four days of world-class tennis.
On behalf of the players, the ATP Tour and ourselves as organizers, we thank the companies, the media, the city of Frankfurt and you, dear tennis fans, who make this event possible.
We are especially pleased that the players, the sponsors, we as organizers and you, the visitors of the tournament, support the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation and programs of the Bill Clinton Foundation with the tournament.
At the Players' Nigth afterwards, everyone will have a nice round to round off this great event.
